Gandhinagar 21 February 2024: Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has granted administrative approval for a Rs 417 crore scheme aimed at providing Narmada water for irrigation to 45 villages in Dhrangadhra, Muli, and Wadwan talukas within Surendranagar district. Previously, these villages did not receive irrigation water through any branch canal managed by Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam, as outlined in the plan for water distribution. Responding promptly to presentations by MPs, MLAs, public representatives, and local leaders from Surendranagar district, the Chief Minister sanctioned the scheme.

The approved budget of Rs 417 crore will facilitate water supply to these 45 villages via a pipeline, utilizing the planned allocation of an additional 1 million acre-feet of Narmada floodwater to Saurashtra. The scheme will involve filling the lakes, ponds, and check dams in Dhrangadhra, Wadwan, and Muli talukas with water from the Narmada reservoir. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance irrigation facilities across an area spanning approximately 3055 hectares.
